Advanced Philosophy

Following the first 5 terms and the introduction to meditation, the School’s philosophy curriculum expands. Emphasis is placed on a variety of areas including the refinement of meditation.

Meditation

Meditation gradually helps bring about inner peace, harmony and clarity of mind while releasing fine energy for use in daily life.  The simple exercise introduced in the Introductory Course along with subsequent practices help to prepare students for meditation. The introduction to meditation is regarded as a significant event. It is marked by a simple, dignified ceremony. Students are asked to present some traditional offerings, including a gift of money that is used solely for the purpose of making meditation available.

Service
: “Working With and For Others

Students are offered the opportunity to give service within the School. It is important to note that no one in the School receives payment of any sort for the service that he or she gives. The school is truly a service organization. This has both a philosophical and a practical aspect. Philosophically, it provides a specific opportunity to work with others in the School in an atmosphere that is conducive to putting the philosophical teaching into practice. This serves as an aid in applying the principles more frequently and effectively in one’s daily life.

Study Days

As part of the School’s advanced offerings, students are given the opportunity to attend study days. The focus of the day includes the study of philosophic material as well as the practice of mindfulness in physical activity. Activities include study, group meetings and discussion, periods of physical work and meditation. Students report that study days offer an opportunity to let go of stress and to experience deeper levels of peace and well being within themselves.
